HSE construction site inspections throughout June

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors are currently inspecting construction sites across UK to check employers know the risks and use the right controls to protect workers from inhaling construction dust including respirable crystalline silica (RCS) and wood dust. Inspections, which are supported by HSE’s Dust Kills campaign, focus on respiratory risks and occupational lung disease. Each year in the construction industry, there are thousands of preventable cases of ill health caused by lung disease due to past exposure to dust at work. These diseases often have a life-changing impact and can result in an early death.

It’s vital that you manage the risks in your workplace and provide health surveillance (HS) appointments to all employees that are exposed to construction dust to ensure that you comply with HSE regulations. Health surveillance may enable to detect ill-health effects at an early stage and help ensure that better controls to prevent them from getting worse. If you haven’t arranged the health surveillance programme yet, please get in touch with us and we will help you organise this.
